One of the toughest thing in IM is actually “getting” the customer. Wouldn’t you agree?
It’s hard to get clients and can even be down right expensive at times. But is simply “getting” the client the key to your success? Does it all stop there once they buy your products and have become your customer? If your answer is Yes, you are truly missing out.
So if your goal is to make money, who is the easiest person to make money from? Someone who is already your client and trust you because you have delivered? Or, the new possible customer that has never used your products or services before? Yeah, think about that for a second. Now that you have thought about that, think about how much effort you put into finding new clients. Maybe think about how much money you are putting into finding new clients. That should stimulate your brain a little.
The key in IM isn’t just a race to see who can get the most clients the fastest. No, not at all… not in any business. The goal is to see who can “keep” the most clients. Once you shift your mindset into this train of thinking you will start to understand more about what the title to this article means. Repeat Business Equals Life. It’s so simple and so true it’s almost elementary.
Ok so we understand that reaching new customers is paramount. Agreed? Good. Now that you have some clients, why not step off of your eagerly-run-and-gun-attitude for a few and deal with what you already have… clients! These folks have gone out of their way, trusted you, and both your products or services. It’s time to shift gears a little and start thinking a little more like a customer. So how do we do that? I recommend a couple things:
- Follow Ups
- Customer Support
- Keep New Products In Front of Them
Ok so let’s briefly look at these:
Follow Ups
How do we follow up with a customer who has purchased our products? It should be pretty easy! You have their information from their order form don’t you? Why not send them an email asking about how the product is working? Send them a questionnaire about your company, website, or products? These types of things can be done automatically with email software that you can set and forget. At least forget until they email you back and give you some feedback. That feedback can then be used to better your website, product, or business process in general!
Customer Support
A very neglected aspect of many IM in my opinion. Customer support can go a million miles if you “get it right” the first time. Think with me for a minute… You are the customer, you buy a product, you get the product and then… that’s it. You have a problem with said product and you try to find the products website and it isn’t there, or you find it and the phone number doesn’t work etc. There is no ticket support system in place or anything for that matter. You think you are going to be able to sell that person again? Exactly.
Keep New Products In Front Of Them
New products… it’s what we IMs live on. A new niche, a new line, a new path to riches and glory. We are always looking for something new to get out there and make money on, right? So build that relationship up with current customers and clients and use that to your advantage. I guarantee you that happy customers that are pleased with your service and products will buy again. Well not all, but hey, it’s a free lead and that’s invaluable!
So kick these ideas around in your head for a few days. How can you motivate your current customers to buy again? How can you keep them happy? How can you continue to build value with them and your product while keeping them happy? The time thinking just might save you an awful lot of money and energy. In the end, that repeat business might just equal a little more life in your business.
