How powerful can a keyword be for advertising your campaign?

Have you thought about it much?  Have you tried internet marketing only to be frustrated that you never sold anything or only sold a couple of bucks worth of product in a year?  Maybe that is because you haven’t fully grasped the power of selecting good keywords for your campaign.

One question I get all the time is…

“How do you get your articles ranked so high in search engines”?

I give them the same answer each and every time.  Keywords.  When it comes to advertising online, the area that you really should be spending most of your time and energy in is keyword selection.  Wrote a fantastic article?  Awesome!  Gave some great advice that people can’t live without?  Great!  Pick the wrong keywords? Yup, and now no one will read, let alone see your article.

So how do you pick good keywords?

Good question.  It takes a little brain power and some diligence to get that right keyword phrase that you need for your article.  There are programs that can help you when you are in the process of selecting good keywords though.  One program is called: Keyword Elite With this software you can select good keywords easily and quickly in no time.

Another route that is free is to just use Google’s own Keyword Tool.  It takes a little getting used to, but once you understand the way it works and what it offers, you will continually be using it to dig deep for your next keyword phrase.

I personally use a tool that is provided at Wealthy Affiliate University.  All you have to do with their Keyword Tool is plug the keyword in you think is good and the program spits out ALL listings for that keyword in Google and Yahoo and offers page rank information, last months searches, and other recommendations based on people’s searches done.  It is one of he most powerful tools I have ever used!

In the end…

It all comes down to selecting good keywords for your campaign.  Pick the wrong ones and no one will see your article.  Pick the right ones, and you will be raking in the cash!

I have seen so many videos and websites talking about Wealthy Affiliate lately, some good some bad.  So I figured I better get something of my own up for you guys to really “see” the difference.

Wealthy Affiliate has been around for a number of years now.  Many people have past through its gates and have graduated as some high level super affiliates making hundreds of thousands a year now.  So is Wealthy Affiliate a scam or is it a legit place to learn about internet marketing?  What even is Wealthy Affiliate?

WA is indeed a very legit place to learn about internet marketing and become extremely educated in your internet marketing niche.  It is a learning institute that not only offers resources on all IM categories, they as offer 1 on 1 training during your stay there.  This isn’t a “hey come here and get rich over night” gig.  Aren’t you tired of wasting your money on those?  This is a real place with real people that will teach you have to create a real internet business for yourself in the shortest time possible.  How are you going to start and run an internet business when you don’t know how to do that?

The short answer is, you’re not.  Once you join WA, the owners will be in direct contact with you fielding your questions and setting you in the right direction.  You can buddy up with some of the top category experts in the field or niche that you want to learn and it’s, “off to the races” for you.  The speed at which you learn is solely based upon how you like to study.  If you prefer to take things slow, then by all means talk it slow and relax.  For those that want to dive right into the IM world, there are numerous guides and tutorials to help you do just that.  It doesn’t matter if you are a complete newcomer to the IM world or if you have done marketing for years, WA has something valuable to offer you.

I wanted to share a story that popped into my head tonight while walking my dog.

Every night, my dog (Dart) and I stay up late writing articles and reading online. And every night, we go out for walks so he can pee and so I can stretch my legs from sitting all day. We enjoy it and make the normal rounds each night so he can pee on his favorite bushes and mark his territory.

We walk the same way each time and he knows the route well. Part of our walk leads up to a small gate that we have to go through to get back to our house. The gate opening is only about 2 feet wide and about 6 feet high. It’s a tight squeeze.

This gate is the home for a little spider. This little spider puts up his web every night in the hopes of catching food. The only problem is, each night I walk through there and I knock down his little web that runs across from one side of the gate to the other… and each night he rebuilds it, in the hopes of catching food.

This got me thinking…

See the spider knows that every night some big piece of food is going through his web. He thinks that he is doing something great by placing his web so high in the air and hopes one day his web will land him a big meal! Only problem is, I am a little to big to catch.

Then I thought more…

Some of us in the internet marketing world place our webs too high and too far out to catch food. Instead, we should be looking at placing webs down lower to the ground where prey more our size is at. Only then could we grow big and strong enough to catch those big fish!

Moral of the story: Start where you are (spend time learning). Build on your base (gain knowledge and experience in trial and error). Grow (action) and learn (repeat action and wisdom)… and some day… some day, we will all have a chance at the big fish(big money baby)! (or in his case dragonflies)!

So we did everything we can do to quickly start an article marketing campaign.  What else do we need to know?

A lot actually.  This is the tip of the iceberg really.  You can do the above steps over and over again, and as an article marketer, you will need to be doing this all the time.  Rinse, wash, repeat.  Welcome to the world of article marketing.

What else can we do to help our articles?

Squidoo:

One thing we spoke about earlier on is to use a website called Squidoo. Read about starting a Squidoo lens here. Squidoo is a great addition to our article marketing campaign. It’s free to use, Google likes it, and will help you when writing articles for EZA. You can make Squidoo lenses about the products you write on, then put a link in your bio box at EZA directly to Squidoo! Your Squidoo lens now acts like your website and showcases your products for people to buy.

Other Article Directories:

Submitting to articles directories help us use free advertising to promote our products. But EZA isn’t the only one out there! There are others that rank well with Google and you can also submit articles to them too! One other I recommend is GoArticles.com (GA). Google seems to like GA and I have had good placement with many of my articles that I submitted to GA. Search the WAU forums for other article submission directories or just Google a few. Submit to as many as you can!

Traffic Building Websites:

There are many websites that are designed to help you generate traffic to your site. Most you pay for, some are free to use. TrafficSwarm is a popular site that you can sign up and use for free. I wont cover much about their service, but it is truly free to use. It’s a little bit of a pain, but it is free.

About ClickBank:

As we said earlier, ClickBank monitors everything concerning customer support to payments. Take some time now to review their website and learn about the “Reporting” feature. This feature will show all your transactions and tell you what you sold, to whom, and when. This will be a key in building good records and monitoring your checks and income. Next…

So we did all our homework, wrote, submitted, tried new things, now what?

Refine:

Throwing stuff up on the Internet can take time. But do you remember Clickbank and the My-Linker Cloaking tools? These tools can help you monitor where you are getting clicks from. Monitoring these tools will help you know which of your campaigns you are running are generating leads or sales. These areas will be the areas you want to focus on when taking your next step. So, should I start a new campaign every week or keep building on the same one? Look at it this way:

Ever heard a great piano player? I mean someone that just blows you away? Well he wasn’t born a piano player per-say. He had to practice and practice – and practice some more before he could play like that. It will be the same for article marketing. You will need to practice, refine your strategy, look at what works and what doesn’t work – BUT you will need to focus on doing things correctly.

If you stay with a certain niche you will learn quickly what is working for it and what isn’t. I say stay with your main campaign, sure build new ones, but focus your attention on one. You will learn, change things, and like the piano player – you will get better! If you do find that you are having a hard time writing, then I do recommend some good writing software to help give you a boost. This isn’t hard, it’s quite simple actually. However, article marketing is the FREE route to making money at home and takes time. I think I got lucky and hit a good niche within my first two weeks here and started to see money coming in from Clickbank. But anyone can do the exact same thing.

I’m not a guru, I’m not a pro, I make tons of mistake still – but – I keep going and learn from my mistakes! You can do this if you want it bad enough!

Use WAU Tools:

At WAU, there are many tools that you can use to your advantage prior to writing and submitting articles.  Some help you research keywords, others help your write or spin articles, and others help you track your progress or monitor clicks on your links.

Action Step:

Take some time if you haven’t already and look at the link on the top middle of the WAU website called “Tools & Research”.  This is going to become your new friend.  Some areas as an article marketer that will be most beneficial to you are,

- Keyword Research Tool

- My-Linker Cloaking Tool

- ClickBank Research Tool

- Rapid Writer

Open these tools up and get used to how they work and what they can do.  The two main ones you need to focus on from the start are the “Keyword Research Tool” and “Rapid Writer”.

Keyword Research Tool:

This tool was designed to help you research keywords and will show you all kinds of important information about them.  Everything from how many times the keyword was searched last month to the importance of the clicks.  You will use this tool every time you research a new niche prior to your writing of the article.

Action Step:

Use the Keyword Research Tool to research some words that you think are good search words for a product you want to advertise.  Record your findings, we will deal with this more later.

Rapid Writer:

This tool was designed to help you write and monitor keyword presence in your articles.  It does other things as well, but for right now I only want to focus on the percentage of keywords in the articles you are going to write.  I use it soley for this purpose.

Action Step:

Open Rapid Writer and get ready to write.  before you write, enter a keyword on the right-hand side of the page.  Then write a short paragraph using the keyword you selected.  Notice how every time you write your keyword, Rapid Writer records it and shows you the percentage of usage within the article.  If you aren’t a member of WAU, then I recommend that you get some good article writing software to help you out. Click here to pickup some of the most powerful stuff on the net today! We will need this later. On to the next:

So we have now signed up at the website we will need to use to start our article marketing career.  We have looks at a couple of tools that WAU offers to help us write articles and make the articles SEO friendly.  What’s next?

It’s time to start writing!  This is the fun part in my opinion because this is where you get to show some creativity and build on what you have learned so far.

This next part shows you how I used all these tools, step-by-step, in order to start article marketing.  Ready?  Go:

1.) Research:

Go to the Clickbank website and search for a product you want to sell.  There are many guides concerning how to do this so I wont cover it in detail.  However, I will tell you that you need to go to Clickbank, login, on the top right of the page is a link to “marketplace” so click that, that opens up a search area, use that to find a product.

2.) Keyword Selection:

Once you find a product, let’s find some keywords to advertise it!  Open up the Keyword Research Tool here at WAU.  Start looking for keywords that you think would be good search phrases that people would use to find the product you picked.  I personally aim for long keyword phrases.  For example:  Instead of using the keyword phrase “tooth whitening”. I would look at “how to whiten my yellow teeth”.  The reason for this is that when you search these two keyword phrases, the second one comes up with less results and will be easier to advertise.

Rule of Thumb: Find keywords or keyword phrases that have results of less than 5000 search results.  To figure this out, go to a Google search page.  Type in how to whiten my yellow teeth but use quotes around that phrase – like this:  ”how to whiten my yellow teeth”.  This is called “quoted results”.  Now look at the number of search results on the top right-hand side of the page.  If it’s 5000 or less, we found a good keyword to use!

3.) Rapid Writer:

Now open Rapid Writer and start writing about your product!  We are going to write two articles.  One for our website and one for EZA.

If you don’t know anything about the product, take 15 minutes to search for it on Google and read about.  Find an article or website and pull some information from it, then re-write it into your own words.  Be very careful not to copy what someone has already written.  This is illegal… against the law.

Before you actually start writing, place your keyword phrase into the box on the right of Rapid Writer.  This will monitor how many times you use your keyword.  The aim is to use it between 1% to 3% in your article.  So write your articles, two of them about your product and tell your audience why it is so great and why they need it.

4.) Submitting Time:

Once you have written your two articles, reread them 3 times.  Once as a proof read in your head, the next you should read it out loud and slowly.  You will find grammar and typos possibly as this stage.  And the final read is done slowly and out loud again to ensure there are no more errors after correcting all your work.

Go to Wordpress.org and open your website/blog.  Go to the “Post” section of it and place your article from Rapid Writer into the new post.  Create a title for the article and make sure to use your keyword in the title.  Once you have checked your work, submit the article and check to make sure that it is live on your website!  Easy!  Note: Make sure you added a link to your product in this article!

Next, go to EZA and submit the second article there.  Make sure you pick the right category at EZA to submit the article to.  In the bio box of this article, include a link ONLY to your website with the article you wrote on your site as the link.  Remember, EZA doesn’t allow links to products but does allow links to personal websites/blogs.

5.) Wait, But Don’t Stop:

Now you have to wait for Google to find your website/blog and for EZA to accept your article.  But don’t just wait!  Get to work to build backlinks and more articles!

Backlinks are links on the internet that point to your site or article.  So now you want to build some backlinks so that Google thinks your article is important and people are linking to it!  Easy huh?  Use things like Twitter, Facebook, forum signatures, link submission websites and the like to post a link to your new website/blog or article.

Write more articles!  Think of it this way, the internet is huge – we are talking BILLIONS of websites and articles.  Do you think one simple article is going to make you a million dollars?!  I doubt it.  So as article marketers, we know that we need to write and write daily!  The more articles you have out, the more likely someone is going to find them and buy from you!

Q: So what is article marketing?

A: Article marketing is simply the art of you writing an article about a product or service and then posting that article online in the hopes of people seeing it and buying your product.

Sounds easy right? Well, it really is. Here all around the net you will find all kinds of article marketing advice, some long winded and some not worth the read. I want to give you the main points that I feel are important for you as a newcomer to jumpstart your article marketing career and get to the point of actually making money. We are only going to cover steps that are FREE for you to use.

You ready? Good I hope so. I will show you how I started making money within 2 weeks and how you can do it too and no, you don’t have to pay me anything for it.

Important:

This tutorial will take you step-by-step from “just starting” to “monitoring and collecting payments”. Please follow the action plan exactly and if you have done your research and applied the tactics here for your article writing and SEO (search engine optimization), you will see results. Each section has an, “Action Step” at the bottom. You will need to preform this step as you proceed through this tutorial.  Let’s get to it:

Things You Must Know:

If you are going to use article marketing as your main advertising force, there are a couple things you need to know to get started. Let’s briefly look at a couple of these to get you going:

1.) EzineArticles.Com (EZA):

While there are many online article submitting directories that will showcase the articles you write, none is more important (in my personal opinion) than EZA. This is one of the few article submission directories that actually “hand review” the articles you write. This is done by real human beings. That being the case, Google views EZA as a reputable source of information and if your article gets published here, you have a very likely chance of getting placed on Google’s front page of search results. Being on page one = people seeing you and your products.

Action Step:

Sign up for an EZA account. You are allowed to submit 10 articles for review at a time. It can take a few days to a few weeks for them to review your article. Exercise patience and wait for the submission to go through. This is your main target site for article submission.

2.) You Need A Website:

To effectively write articles for EZA, you are going to need a website. EZA does not allow you to post links to your affiliate products in your articles. You must post a link to your website which has another article about the affiliate product you are selling. But fear not! You don’t need any experience at all to have a website. Welcome to the world of Wordpress.org

Action Step:

Go to Wordpress.org and sign up for a FREE website. Yes, it’s totally free. We will use Wordpress.org because it is a fully functional website/blog out of the box all ready for you to post your articles in! It is also SEO friendly. This means you need no experience whatsoever to put up your website and write articles. So go sign up for a free account.

Alternate Action Step:

If you can’t figure out Wordpress.org, I suggest you use a site called “Squidoo.Com”. They offer you a free “mini site” or webpage about the item you wish to sell.

3.) Use Clickbank:

Clickbank is a great little website that offers you products to sell. There are merchants here and affiliates. You will be the affiliate. You then browse through merchant products and find something you want to sell, then write articles about it with links in the articles to the products. Couldn’t be easier!

Action Step:

Go sign up for a free ClickBank account. This will allow you to sell products for merchants. Clickbank takes care of all your needs concerning payments, customer service, and monitoring hits and traffic on the products you advertise. So nice!

This is part 2 of the “article writing tactics” topic we looked at yesterday. Let’s continue our discussion on article marketing tactics and die right back in where we left off. We have now built belief and are looking to make a sale. On to step 4.

Step 4

Turn Belief Into Action

The consumer is now far enough down the path to a sale that we must get them to take action. Sales is a game of cat and mouse. We want to make a sale, however, we must never come off that way. Instead, we tell the customer what to do because at this point, they already want to do it anyway. Encourage them to join your newsletter to receive a free eBook, join your site for free to receive access to your forums or “secret blog”, or simply ask them to fill out a short form on your site for feedback. Tell them what to do, these are great article marketing tactics.

Step 5

Action Equals Reaction

It’s now your turn to act. The consumer has shown interest or has purchased your product and it is time for you to show how grateful you are for that business. Send an automated thank you style email for their purchase, allow access to a previously restricted area of your site to them, give them their free item you promised. This is a crucial moment in the life of your business plan and will either help generate repeat business, or could possibly lose your brand new consumer to someone who will treat them better. Remember, new consumers are a great catch, however, repeat business will keep your business alive in the long run. This should be one of your top priorities when building your article marketing action plan.

Step 6

Turn Reaction Back Into Interest

We have made a sale, we have a new customer, we have followed up and have done a good job to satisfy our customer. Time to rest? Never. It is now time to turn that reaction into momentum. What I mean buy that is we have a customer, they have our product, they are satisfied, and now we must build more interest. This takes us back to Step 1. Momentum can quickly be turned back into interest by following the steps outlined above. This is the cycle of great article marketing tactics and a demonstration of an article marketing action plan.

There are so many article marketing tactics which you can implement to build your consumer base and retain customers. These article marketing tactics listed here are a proven way and can be a great place to start if you are trying build an article marketing action plan.

We are going to look at what I believe to be 6 fundamental steps to building an article marketing action plan. Today we will look at the first 3 steps that we need to take to learn how to use article marketing tactics to our advantage. The aim here is to piece together an article marketing action plan from start to finish in the hopes of making sales and gaining repeat business. Here is part 1:

Article marketing continues to be the proven way to drive free traffic to your website and boost page ranking. However, just driving the traffic there isn’t all we are trying to do. We want to make a sale and keep the customers that we have gained over time. So, let’s look at 6 steps to building a successful article marketing tactics plan for our business. I like to call this an “article marketing action plan”!

Step 1

Create Interest

If we are going to sell anything at all online, we must create interest. To create interest, we must know our product and understand how to convey that in a way that the consumer finds interesting. A good example would be a sports drink. People that are active have a natural interest in things pertaining to their sporting activity. If we use some basic article marketing tactics to generate interest, we would assume that they have this “sporting” interest and cater our sales article to peek the interest of the product to the consumer. This in turn creates an elevated interest in the product, thus driving interest and possibly a sale.

Step 2

Turn Interest Into Benefit

Why do people buy? They buy things that interest them and have a benefit. For example, none of us will just buy a car. We will buy because the gas milage is great, the color is what we like, because the A/C unit is better in this current model and because it has tinted windows. These are benefits. If we apply some basic article marketing tactics here, we can turn the consumers interest into benefit by simply advertising these benefits instead of trying to “sell” the car. We have thus turn interest into benefit and are one step closer to generating a sale.

Step 3

Turn Benefit Into Belief

We have used article marketing tactics now to get to the stage of benefit and must further that by turning this into belief. A consumer will not buy something they don’t believe will work. In order to go from benefit to belief we must prove some proof. In dealing with a car, we give the consumer a test drive. They see out the beautiful tinted windows, feel the A/C, they notice how little gas is used and they now believe in the benefits we described. To turn this into profitable article marketing tactics, we offer our consumers a free eBook, newsletter, or another download to “prove” how beneficial our products and services are. Doing so places us one step closer to a sale and also builds value and credibility to us as a business.
